Powerball Jackpot Winners

Seek financial advice before collecting the jackpot. Consider the following questions:

In cash or in annuities?  Do you want to receive your award in the form of an annuity (a series of fixed payments made at regular intervals over a specified period of time), in one lump sum? The cash value of the jackpot is approximately 50 percent of the published prize calculated in annuities. If you choose an annuity, you will be paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years. Subsequent annual payments will be made each year around the anniversary date of the claim. The decision you make is binding and irrevocable. You have 60 days from the date your ticket is validated to decide how you will be paid.

What is the best way to share a prize?  If you want to share the prize with others, you may want to set up a trust. Your bank, lawyer, or accredited financial advisor will be able to advise you on this option. You can decide to “split” the prize by asking all winners to fill out IRS Tax Form, which will dictate how certain game winnings will be split. If you choose to “split” the prize, one person will be designated as the prize winner, who will sign the winning Powerball ticket and distribute the money. You will need to provide the names, addresses, social security numbers, and the total amount to be distributed to each person.

Where will you put your money?  There are FDIC regulations that must be considered when depositing large sums of money. Check with your financial institution for more information.
